YouScan vs Brandwatch: pricing, image recognition and which to buy

The short answer

YouScan and Brandwatch are both enterprise-grade social listening platforms, and only one of them will tell you what it costs. YouScan publishes a single plan, Starter 3 at $499 per month billed annually for 3 topics and 15,000 mentions, read from youscan.io/pricing on September 16, 2026; everything above it, including the image recognition it is famous for, is a quote. Brandwatch publishes no price on any plan, its pricing URL redirects to a plans page that ends in a three-step demo form, and Vendr records a median Brandwatch contract of $50,000 a year across 40 purchases. Buy YouScan for visual and audience research at a readable entry price, Brandwatch for the deepest historical archive and a suite that spans listening, publishing and influencer work, and neither if your real job is fast alerts on written mentions.

Most YouScan vs Brandwatch comparisons on the web are auto-generated review aggregators, and the one first-party page on the topic belongs to YouScan, which quotes a Brandwatch starting price that Brandwatch itself does not publish anywhere. So start with what can actually be verified. YouScan puts one number on its pricing page: $499 a month billed annually, also shown as EUR 499 and GBP 499 depending on which currency you click. Brandwatch puts no number on its plans page at all, and the only route to a figure is a demo form asking which of its three solutions you want.

That asymmetry is the whole comparison in miniature. YouScan is the mid-market platform with a readable floor and a hidden ceiling: Visual Insights, Audience Insights, the API and data export all sit on its quote-only Unlimited plan. Brandwatch is the enterprise platform with no floor to read at all, but with the largest archive in the category, a suite that also covers social media management and influencer marketing since the Falcon and Paladin acquisitions, and a parent company, Cision, that has owned it since June 2021. Below is what each publishes, what the contract data says, and the three questions that decide which one you should sign.

Why it works

Three things that decide this comparison

Only one of them publishes a price

YouScan shows $499 a month billed annually for Starter 3 and hides the rest behind a demo. Brandwatch shows nothing: its pricing URL redirects to a plans page where every solution ends in See it in action. The $800 a month figure some comparison pages attach to Brandwatch is not on any Brandwatch page.

The headline features are on the unpriced tiers

YouScan is bought for image recognition, and Visual Insights sits on the quote-only Unlimited plan, not the $499 one. Brandwatch is bought for its archive of 1.7 trillion conversations back to 2010, and that is sold inside a negotiated Consumer Intelligence contract. In both cases the reason you came is not on the published price.

One is a tool, the other is a suite

YouScan does listening, visual analysis and audience research. Brandwatch sells three solutions from one login: Consumer Intelligence, Social Media Management (formerly Falcon) and Influencer Marketing (formerly Paladin), plus Search Intelligence and GenAI monitoring. If you need publishing and listening under one contract, that changes the math entirely.

The full comparison

YouScan vs Brandwatch: what each publishes, what contracts cost, and where the features really sit

YouScan figures were read from youscan.io/pricing on September 16, 2026. Brandwatch figures were read from brandwatch.com/plans on September 9 and re-checked on September 16, 2026. Contract data is from Vendr, which aggregates private SaaS purchases, and is quoted with its sample size. Nothing here is estimated, and where a vendor publishes no figure this page says so.

Start with the pricing pages, because they tell you what kind of buyer each vendor wants.

YouScan's page shows two columns. Starter 3, at $499 a month billed annually, covers 3 text-based topics, up to 15,000 monthly mentions, unlimited users, unlimited social searches, unlimited rules and alerts, one custom dashboard, one Slack, Teams or WhatsApp integration, the Mention Wall display and 10 Insights Copilot questions a month. The second column, Unlimited, has no price and is where the platform's distinctive work lives: as many topics as you need, unlimited sampled mentions, Visual Insights for logo and product detection in images, Audience Insights for demographics and occupations, unlimited Copilot questions, unlimited dashboards, data export and API access. YouScan accepts cards through Stripe and wire transfers, which is unusual at this level and tells you it expects some customers to self-serve.

Brandwatch's page, titled Pricing and Plans for Every Team, contains no plan names with prices and no figures. It describes standard to enterprise plans available for each of three solutions and routes every one to a demo form that asks for your email, which solution you want, and your company and country. There is no free trial. Brandwatch is owned by Cision, which closed the acquisition on June 1, 2021, and Cision's own pricing request form names Brandwatch among its affiliated brands. The only independent cost signal is Vendr: a median contract of $50,000 a year, a range of $19,542 to $81,200, across 40 recorded purchases, with buyers negotiating about 15% off the first quote on average.

Is YouScan better than Brandwatch?

For visual listening and ease of use, yes. YouScan's Visual Insights finds logos and products in photos that never name the brand, and reviewers on the aggregator sites consistently rate it easier to set up and administer. For historical depth, breadth of suite and enterprise governance, no: Brandwatch's archive reaches back to 2010 and its suite covers publishing and influencer work that YouScan does not attempt.

The honest answer for most mid-market teams is that neither is better, because both are research platforms priced for an insights function. If you need a marketing manager to hear about a Reddit thread before it spreads, you are buying alerting and coverage, which is a different and cheaper product.

How much does Brandwatch cost compared to YouScan?

Nobody can answer that from published prices, because Brandwatch does not publish any. YouScan is knowable: $499 a month billed annually, or $5,988 a year, for Starter 3. The only comparable Brandwatch figure is contract data, and Vendr's median across 40 purchases is $50,000 a year, with a range from $19,542 to $81,200.

That gap is not really a like-for-like comparison, because the Brandwatch contract usually covers the Consumer Research archive and often more than one solution, while the YouScan figure covers 3 topics of text listening. Price the tier that contains the feature you actually came for, not the one on the pricing page.

Does Brandwatch publish pricing?

No. Its pricing URL redirects to a plans page headed Pricing and Plans for Every Team, which lists three solutions, describes standard to enterprise plans for each, and ends every route in a demo form. No plan name carries a figure and there is no free trial.

The $800 a month starting price that appears on some comparison pages, including YouScan's own, is not on any Brandwatch page and should be treated as an estimate by a third party. If a procurement process needs a number before a call, Vendr's 40-purchase median is the only sourced figure available.

Does YouScan include image recognition in its $499 plan?

No. Starter 3 is described on YouScan's page as social listening essentials, with data collection based on text queries. Visual Insights, the social image analysis that detects brand logos and products in photos, is listed under the Unlimited plan, which has no published price and is sold after a demo.

This is the single most important thing to know before budgeting for YouScan. If image recognition is the reason it is on your shortlist, the $499 figure is irrelevant to your quote, and you are buying a plan whose price is set in a sales conversation, exactly like Brandwatch.

Who owns Brandwatch and YouScan?

Cision owns Brandwatch. The acquisition closed on June 1, 2021, and Cision's own pricing request form names Brandwatch, CisionOne and PR Newswire as affiliated brands. Brandwatch's Social Media Management solution is the former Falcon.io suite and its Influence solution is the former Paladin, both folded in under the same ownership.

YouScan is independent and privately held. That matters less for the product than for the contract: a Cision-owned platform is sold alongside a media database and a wire service, and cross-sell into those is part of how the account is managed.

Which one fits a mid-market team?

If you have a dedicated insights analyst whose job is to run studies against social data, either platform earns its price and the choice comes down to visual analysis (YouScan) against archive depth and suite breadth (Brandwatch). If you have a marketing or communications manager who needs to know when something about the brand changes, you are buying alerting and coverage, and both platforms are more research tool than you will use.

EyeOut is built for that second buyer. It monitors web, news, social, forums, podcasts and review sites in real time on every plan, reads sentiment, emotion and theme on each mention, runs a crisis radar that baselines each source separately, and publishes $59, $149 and $399 a month billed yearly with seats included. It does no image recognition and no historical backfill, and says so.

What should I ask each vendor before signing?

Ask YouScan whether your mention volume on Unlimited is sampled or complete, since its own page describes the allowance as unlimited sampled mentions, and get the Unlimited price in writing with Visual Insights named on the quote. Ask Brandwatch which of its three solutions the quote covers, how many seats and queries it includes, and what the renewal uplift is, because a first-year discount that resets in year two changes the comparison entirely.

Ask both for the second-year number before you sign the first. Enterprise listening contracts commonly carry an uplift at renewal, and that is where the real cost difference between these two shows up.

Good questions

Questions about youscan vs brandwatch

Only for the monitoring job, and this page will not pretend otherwise. EyeOut does not recognize logos or products in images, does not backfill years of historical conversation, and does not publish posts or manage influencers. If any of those is the requirement, buy the platform that has it. If the requirement is knowing quickly when written mentions of your brand change, across web, news, social, forums, podcasts and reviews, EyeOut does that from $59 a month with seats included.
Because review aggregators fill empty pricing fields from user submissions and older reseller listings, and competitor comparison pages have an incentive to put a high number next to the rival. None of it is on brandwatch.com. The sourced figures are Vendr's median of $50,000 a year across 40 recorded purchases and the range around it, and even those describe negotiated contracts, not a list price.
On the one published figure, yes: $499 a month billed annually against a contract with a $50,000 median. But the YouScan plan you can price excludes image recognition, audience analytics, export and the API, and the YouScan plan that includes them has no published price. Compare the quotes for the tiers that contain what you need, not the entry price against the median.
