Cision competitors: pricing, alternatives and what each one replaces
The short answer
Cision's competitors sort by which part of Cision you are paying for. Against the full PR suite, the realistic rivals are Meltwater, Onclusive, Muck Rack and Agility PR Solutions, and none of the four publishes a price. For the media database and pitching alone, the Semrush AI PR Toolkit, which is what Prowly became, lists plans from $149 a month. For coverage monitoring and reporting alone, tools such as EyeOut and Brand24 publish prices from $59 and $199 a month. Vendr puts the median Cision contract at $12,625 a year across 107 purchases, against $25,800 for Meltwater and $13,000 for Muck Rack. One name that does not belong on the list is Brandwatch: Cision owns it.
Almost nobody searches for Cision competitors out of curiosity. The renewal is in front of you, the number moved, and procurement wants to see that you looked at the market before signing. The problem is that Cision is not one product. It is a media contacts database, a monitoring and analytics platform, and PR Newswire distribution, sold together, and the right competitor for one of those is usually the wrong one for the others.
Cision makes the comparison harder by publishing nothing. Its pricing URL, re-checked on September 11, 2026, redirects to a request-pricing page that is a three-step form asking nine questions before anyone speaks to you about money. The same form's consent text names the affiliated brands you are really buying from: Brandwatch, CisionOne and PR Newswire.
This page does the sorting. It groups the credible rivals by which part of Cision they replace, gives the published price where one exists and Vendr contract data where it does not, and is plain about where EyeOut fits, which is the monitoring and analytics part only.

Why it works
Three questions that decide your Cision shortlist
Which of the three products you actually use
Pull your last quarter of usage before you pull quotes. Teams that pitch weekly are shopping for a media database. Teams that mostly read coverage reports are shopping in the monitoring market, which is an order of magnitude cheaper and publishes its prices.
Whether distribution is in the contract
PR Newswire distribution is the piece with no cheap substitute, and it is also the piece most often bundled into a Cision number. Price it as its own line. If you send two releases a year, paying for it inside an annual platform contract is expensive.
How much room the first quote leaves
Vendr records Cision deals from $3,150 to $30,368 a year with average negotiated savings of about 25.5 percent, the widest discounting in this set. A real competitive evaluation pays for itself even when you renew.
What it handles
Watched, read and flagged in real time
EyeOut watches every channel for your brand, scores each mention for sentiment and emotion, rolls it up into share of voice and a daily digest, and alerts you the second a real spike begins.
- A published price for the monitoring and analytics part, from $59 a month billed yearly
- News, web, X, Reddit, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, forums, podcasts and review sites in one feed

- Share of voice against the competitors you name, updated continuously
- Seats included on every plan, so comms, marketing and the agency all read the same feed
- Graded crisis alerts to email and Slack, with no lead form, no module picker and no annual negotiation

Who competes with Cision, what each one costs, and which part of the platform it replaces
Cision, Onclusive and Agility PR Solutions pricing behavior was read from their own sites on September 11, 2026. The Semrush AI PR Toolkit, Muck Rack, Prezly and Brand24 pricing pages were read on September 10, 2026, and Meltwater on September 1, 2026. Contract medians, ranges and sample sizes are Vendr figures aggregated from real private SaaS purchases, last updated February 2026.
Start with how Cision is assembled, because it explains the quote. The company sells a media contacts database and pitching workflow, a monitoring and analytics platform now branded CisionOne, and press release distribution through PR Newswire. Brandwatch, acquired when Cision closed its purchase on June 1, 2021, supplies consumer social listening, and BuzzSumo sits in the same group. A Cision proposal can therefore carry four products under one number.
That structure splits the competitor set cleanly. Meltwater, Onclusive and Agility PR Solutions sell the same combination of database, monitoring and analytics, so they compete for the whole contract. Muck Rack competes for the database and pitching half plus monitoring. The Semrush AI PR Toolkit competes for the database and online monitoring at a published price. Prezly competes for the newsroom and pitching workflow. EyeOut and Brand24 sell no database at all and compete only for monitoring and reporting.
The second split is transparency, and it is stark. Of the vendors that sell a full PR suite, not one publishes a price. Onclusive has no pricing page at all: the URL returns a 404 and every route ends in Request a demo. Agility PR Solutions has a plans page that lists modules, states that billing is annual by default in USD, CAD or GBP, and then asks you to speak to an expert. That is why the contract table below leans on Vendr rather than on list prices that do not exist. The sample sizes are worth reading: 107 Cision purchases, 126 for Meltwater and 80 for Muck Rack are large enough to budget from.

Where each Cision competitor is stronger, and where it is not
| Vendor | Strongest at | Weakest at | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cision | The widest footprint in PR: contacts, CisionOne monitoring, PR Newswire distribution and Brandwatch social listening under one roof | No published price anywhere, and a shortlist can accidentally carry the same parent company three times | Enterprise PR departments that genuinely use distribution and the database |
| Meltwater | Earned media breadth across print, broadcast and podcasts, with a very large contract sample to benchmark against | The median contract is roughly double Cision, and social listening is a separately selected, unpriced capability | Global comms teams where print and broadcast coverage matters |
| Onclusive | A single unified platform spanning monitoring, contacts, social listening, analytics and AI brand visibility, with in-house analyst services | The most opaque pricing in the set: no pricing page at all, so there is no published anchor to negotiate from | Teams that want human insight work bundled with the software |
| Agility PR Solutions | Modules can be bought standalone, so you can take monitoring without paying for a database you do not use | Still demo-gated, and its newswire and custom report work is quoted case by case | Mid-size teams that want to unbundle a Cision-shaped contract |
| Muck Rack | Journalist database and pitching in one workflow, with a tighter and more predictable contract range | Social listening, distribution, print and broadcast monitoring and the API all sit outside the plan as add-ons | Comms teams that pitch every week |
| Semrush AI PR Toolkit | The only full database vendor here with a readable price and a self-serve trial | Monitoring starts on Pro at $279, each plan includes one user, and extra seats cost $20 a month each | Small in-house teams that already work in Semrush |
| EyeOut | Published price, real-time monitoring on every plan, seats included, AI sentiment and graded crisis alerts | No media contacts database, no pitching, no wire distribution, no print or broadcast | Teams whose Cision seat is really a monitoring and reporting seat |
Who are Cision's competitors?
For the full PR suite, the closest rivals are Meltwater, Onclusive, Agility PR Solutions and Muck Rack, all of which sell a media database alongside monitoring and analytics. Meltwater is the largest at a $25,800 Vendr median against Cision's $12,625, and Muck Rack is close on cost at $13,000. None of the four publishes a price.
For narrower needs the list changes. The Semrush AI PR Toolkit competes for the database and online monitoring from $149 a month, Prezly for the newsroom and pitching workflow, and EyeOut and Brand24 for monitoring and reporting only, from $59 and $199 a month.
How much does Cision cost?
Cision publishes no price, so the best available evidence is contract data. Vendr puts the median Cision contract at $12,625 a year across 107 recorded purchases, with deals ranging from $3,150 to $30,368 and average negotiated savings of about 25.5 percent. That is roughly $1,052 a month at the median, sold as an annual contract.
The range is wide because the number depends on which products are bundled. A contract carrying the media database, CisionOne monitoring and PR Newswire distribution sits at the top of that range, while a monitoring-only arrangement sits near the bottom.
Does Cision publish its pricing?
No. The pricing URL redirects to a request-pricing page that is a three-step form collecting nine answers, including your company, job title, job role and the solution you want, before anyone quotes a number. There is no plan ladder and no figure anywhere on the page.
That is normal at this tier. Meltwater, Onclusive, Agility PR Solutions and Muck Rack all do the same, and Onclusive does not even keep a pricing page. Among vendors selling a media database, the Semrush AI PR Toolkit is the exception, listing Base, Pro and Business at $149, $279 and $499 a month billed annually.
Does Cision own Brandwatch?
Yes. Cision completed its acquisition of Brandwatch on June 1, 2021, and the consent text on Cision's own request-pricing form names Brandwatch, CisionOne and PR Newswire as its affiliated brands. Cision also owns BuzzSumo, and Cision itself is owned by Platinum Equity.
This matters when you build a shortlist. Putting Cision and Brandwatch on the same evaluation looks like two vendors competing and is really one company quoting twice, so the pricing pressure you think you are creating may not exist.
What is a cheaper alternative to Cision?
It depends which part you need. If you need a media database, the cheapest option with a readable price is the Semrush AI PR Toolkit at $149 a month billed annually for one user, rising to $279 once you want online media monitoring. Pro is $3,348 a year against a $12,625 Cision median.
If you only need monitoring, analytics and crisis alerts, the market is far cheaper. EyeOut starts at $59 a month billed yearly with seats included, and Brand24 at $199. Neither includes a media contacts database, pitching or wire distribution, so check your actual usage before you swap.
What is the difference between Cision and CisionOne?
CisionOne is Cision's monitoring and analytics platform rather than a separate company. Cision's own pricing form lists it as an affiliated brand alongside Brandwatch and PR Newswire, which is why comparison sites sometimes review CisionOne and Cision as if they were two products.
For shortlisting purposes, treat CisionOne as the piece a dedicated monitoring tool competes with. That is the part where EyeOut, Brand24 and the monitoring half of Meltwater or Muck Rack are genuine substitutes, and where published prices actually exist.
Is Onclusive a good Cision alternative?
It is the closest like-for-like replacement in scope. Onclusive sells a unified platform covering media monitoring, a media contacts and events database, social listening, analytics and AI brand visibility, plus analyst-led insight services, which maps onto most of what a Cision contract does apart from wire distribution.
The catch is pricing visibility. Onclusive keeps no pricing page at all, so you start a negotiation with no published anchor and no large public contract sample to benchmark against, which is a weaker position than the one Vendr's 107 Cision data points give you.
Can I buy just media monitoring instead of the whole Cision platform?
Yes, and it is usually the largest saving available. Agility PR Solutions states on its plans page that its solutions can be purchased individually or as an all-in-one platform, and dedicated monitoring vendors sell nothing else, so there is no database or distribution cost baked into the number.
EyeOut is the clearest version of that: $59 a month billed yearly for real-time monitoring across news, web, X, Reddit, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, forums, podcasts and review sites, with AI sentiment, share of voice and graded crisis alerts, and seats included rather than charged per user.
