Listening & monitoring · Social listening software
Social listening software and social media monitoring software that watches every channel in real time
The short answer
Social listening software collects public mentions of your brand, products and competitors from across the internet, then reads them for sentiment and themes so you can act on what people are saying. EyeOut is social media monitoring software covering web, news, X, Reddit, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, forums, podcasts and review sites, with real-time collection on every plan from $59 per month billed yearly. When you compare vendors, the number that decides your real cost is not the headline price but the unit each one meters: keywords, tracked mentions, topics, saved alerts or seats. Two platforms at the same monthly price can differ fourfold once you map your actual keyword list onto their entry tier.
Buying social listening software is mostly an exercise in reading the small print. The headline price tells you very little, because no two vendors meter the same thing. One sells you three keywords, the next sells three topics, a third sells two saved alerts, and a fourth charges per seat and then quotes listening separately. Until you know which unit you are buying, you cannot compare two numbers honestly.
EyeOut is built for the team that wants the whole conversation without an enterprise contract. It tracks your brand, products and competitors across web, news, X, Reddit, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, forums, podcasts and review sites, scores every mention for sentiment, emotion and theme, and fires a graded alert when a spike is genuinely abnormal for that source rather than merely busy. Collection is real time on every plan, seats are included instead of billed per head, and there is no annual lock-in. The table further down compares fifteen platforms on the meter, the seat policy and the refresh interval, all read from the vendors' own pricing pages.

Why it works
What to check before you buy social listening software
Find the meter first
Keywords, tracked mentions, topics, saved alerts and seats are five different meters, and vendors mix them freely. Map your real keyword list and expected mention volume onto each entry tier before you compare prices, because that is where the fourfold differences hide.
Ask how often it collects
Refresh interval is the difference between hearing about a problem now and hearing about it tomorrow morning. Several platforms collect every 12 hours or once a day at entry level, and four of the fifteen below publish no interval anywhere at any price.
Count the seats you will need
Per-seat pricing quietly doubles or triples the bill the moment PR, support and the social team all need access. Some vendors include unlimited users, some charge for every head, and the gap only shows up once you total a realistic team.

The buying guide
Fifteen social listening software platforms, compared on the meter, the seats and the refresh interval
Every published figure below was read from the vendor pricing page, most re-verified in August 2026. Where a vendor publishes nothing, this table says so rather than inventing a number.
Most comparisons of social listening software line up monthly prices and stop there. That comparison is close to meaningless, because the vendors are not selling the same unit.
Start with the meter. Brand24 sells keywords and a mention cap: its entry plan is three keywords and 2,000 tracked mentions a month. Awario sells topics and is far more generous on volume, 30,000 mentions at the entry tier. BuzzSumo does not meter mentions at all, it meters saved alerts, and its cheapest plan gives you two. Determ sells topics with unlimited users attached. Sprout Social, Hootsuite and Agorapulse sell seats, and then treat listening as a separate conversation. If your brand has one name and no product lines, three keywords is plenty. If you need the brand, six products, two executives and four competitors, you are shopping in a different tier than the headline price suggests.
Then look at the refresh interval, which is the least advertised number in this market and often the one that matters most. Real-time collection converges on roughly $399 a month across the vendors that state it, and several well-known platforms collect far less often than buyers assume at entry level. Brand24's cheapest plan refreshes every 12 hours. Mentionlytics starts at every 12 hours. BrandMentions starts at daily. Four of the fifteen platforms below publish no interval at all, at any price, and that silence spans the whole range from $29 to $499, so paying more does not reliably buy you a stated interval.
The third thing to total is seats. Per-seat pricing looks cheap on a pricing page and stops looking cheap the moment your PR lead, two social managers and a support supervisor all need to log in. Brand24 includes unlimited users from its Team plan upward, Determ and YouScan include unlimited users, and the publishing suites charge for every head.
One caveat covers a chunk of this market. Six of the vendors people routinely shortlist publish no list price whatsoever and route every buyer to a demo. That is not just a slower sales cycle, it is a different budget tier: procurement data collected by Vendr across 40 Brandwatch purchases puts the median contract at $50,000 a year, with observed deals from $19,542 to $81,200. Mention is the strangest case of all. Its pricing page renders a single Company Plan card reading "Starting at $" with the figure literally missing, and states no keyword, mention or seat limits anywhere. That was true on August 1 and still true on August 13, 2026, so it reads as a deliberate move to quote-only selling rather than a rendering fault.

What is social listening software?
Social listening software collects public mentions of your brand, products and competitors from across the internet, then analyzes them for sentiment, emotion and recurring themes. It differs from a social media management tool, which is built to publish and schedule posts. Listening software is built to hear, so it covers sources you do not post to, including news sites, Reddit threads, industry forums, podcasts and review pages.
What is the difference between social listening software and social media monitoring software?
In practice vendors use the two terms interchangeably, and buyers search for both. Where a distinction is drawn, monitoring means catching individual mentions and responding to them, while listening means analyzing the aggregate for sentiment, themes and share of voice. Any platform worth buying does both, so treat the label as marketing and compare the coverage, the meter and the refresh interval instead.
How much does social listening software cost?
Published entry prices run from $29 to $499 a month, with most serious platforms landing between $59 and $199 billed yearly. Above that, six widely shortlisted vendors publish no price at all and sell by quote, where procurement data puts real contracts in the five figures a year. Your actual cost depends on the meter, since keyword and mention caps push most buyers above the advertised entry tier.
What is the best social media listening software out there?
There is no single best platform, because the market splits by what you need to watch. If your conversation happens off the big networks, on Reddit, forums, review sites and podcasts, choose a dedicated monitoring platform such as EyeOut, Brand24, Awario or Determ. If you mainly publish to Instagram and X and want listening alongside scheduling, a suite like Sprout Social or Hootsuite fits better, provided you accept per-seat pricing and a quoted listening add-on.
Do I need social listening software if I already use a social media management tool?
Usually yes, because the two cover different ground. Management tools listen well on the networks you have connected accounts to, and go quiet everywhere else. The mentions that damage a brand most often appear where you have no account at all: a Reddit thread, a review page, a niche forum or a podcast episode. If those matter to you, a management tool alone will leave you blind to them.
