Listening & monitoring · NewsWhip pricing
NewsWhip pricing and cost now that Sprout Social owns it
The short answer
NewsWhip does not publish a price. newswhip.com/pricing returns a 404, and every route on the site (Spike, Analytics, the API) ends in "Request a demo" or "Chat with us". Sprout Social bought NewsWhip in a deal that closed on July 30, 2025, for $55 million in cash plus up to $10 million in earnouts, and NewsWhip's CEO now runs Sprout's whole Listening business. You are paying mainly for speed and prediction: articles found within minutes, predicted engagement on every story, and a full Reddit firehose. If you only need to know when news and forums mention your brand, a self-serve monitoring tool with a published price covers that for far less.
Search for NewsWhip pricing and page one is review directories. G2 says the vendor has not provided pricing, Capterra shows a $2,000 starting figure that rests on a single review, and one directory still lists the product as independent. None of them tells you that NewsWhip is now part of Sprout Social, which changes who you negotiate with at renewal, and none of them separates the part of NewsWhip that is genuinely rare (predicting which stories are about to take off) from the part that many tools sell on a published monthly price (alerts when your brand is mentioned).
That split is what should set your budget. A newsroom or a Fortune 500 comms team that needs to see a story going viral before it peaks is buying a capability few vendors have. A marketing team that wants a daily read on news and Reddit mentions is buying something it can get without a sales cycle.

Why it works
Three things to know before you budget for NewsWhip
You are buying from Sprout Social
Sprout Social acquired NewsWhip in a deal that closed on July 30, 2025: $55 million in cash and up to $10 million in performance earnouts over two years. NewsWhip co-founder Paul Quigley became General Manager of Sprout's Listening business, overseeing both NewsWhip and Sprout's own listening products. NewsWhip keeps its own site and logins for Spike and Analytics.
There is no pricing page
newswhip.com/pricing returns a 404. The navigation offers Spike, Analytics and the API, and every product page ends in a demo request or a chat. No tier names, no seat price and no trial are published. Directory figures are thin: Capterra's $2,000 starting price is based on one review.
Prediction is what drives the bill
NewsWhip's distinctive product is predictive engagement: it finds web articles within minutes of publication, measures their engagement on Facebook and X, and predicts where each story is heading. Its API holds history back to 2014. Plain mention alerts are a small part of what the quote pays for.
What it handles
Watched, read and flagged twice an hour
EyeOut watches Google News, Reddit, Mastodon, Hacker News, Lemmy and podcasts for your brand, scores each mention for sentiment, rolls it up into a daily digest and share of voice, and alerts you when a real spike begins.
- A published price at every tier: $39, $94, $249 and $499 a month billed yearly, with no demo call before you can see a number
- Monthly billing on every plan ($79, $189, $499 and $998), so there is no annual contract to sign before you know it works
- Google News, Reddit, Mastodon, Hacker News, Lemmy and Apple Podcasts collected every 30 minutes on every plan
- Crisis radar from Growth that flags a keyword when its mention volume or tone breaks from its own baseline
- AI sentiment and theme on every mention, share of voice against named competitors from Growth
- Seats included in the plan price: 1 on Starter, 3 on Growth, 10 on Pro and 25 on Enterprise, with API access from Pro

How NewsWhip is sold, what a contract covers, and what the public data can and cannot tell you
NewsWhip's homepage, Spike product page, feature overview, API page and its own announcement of the Sprout Social deal were read in October 2026, together with Sprout Social's press release on the acquisition. Where no price is published, this page says so instead of estimating one.
NewsWhip is a Dublin company with a New York office, founded in 2011 and backed by the Associated Press since 2016. It sells three things. Spike is the monitoring dashboard, built around real-time feeds of web articles and social posts ranked by engagement and predicted engagement. Analytics is the historical research product. The API delivers the same data into your own dashboards, newsrooms and apps, with history back to 2014.
None of the three has a price on the site. That is normal for this end of the market (Meltwater, Cision and Sprinklr do the same), but it means the useful question is not what NewsWhip costs in general. It is which of its capabilities you would actually use, and whether any of them is cheaper elsewhere.
The Sprout Social deal matters for that question. Sprout already sells listening as an add-on to its per-seat social media plans. With NewsWhip's CEO now running all of Sprout's listening, expect the renewal conversation to include Sprout products, and ask in writing whether your NewsWhip contract terms and price carry over.

| Capability | What NewsWhip says it does | Can you buy it elsewhere on a published price? |
|---|---|---|
| Web article discovery | New articles found within minutes of publication, in every country and language, with total and predicted interactions on Facebook and X | Partly. Many tools find articles; few predict engagement |

| AI Monitoring Agent | Analyst-style alerts that explain what is happening, why it matters and how it is changing | Partly. AI summaries are spreading across monitoring tools |
| Alerts and reports | Real-time and predictive alerts, digests, AI Digest, Report Builder, Slack, Microsoft Teams and PowerPoint export | Yes. Most monitoring tools sell alerts and Slack delivery |

How much does NewsWhip cost?
NewsWhip does not publish a cost. Its pricing URL returns a 404 and every product page leads to a demo request, so the figure depends on which products you take (Spike, Analytics, the API), how many users and searches you need, and how much history you want.
The only public figure is Capterra's $2,000 starting price, which is based on one review and says seats are set by contract. Treat it as a data point, not a budget.
Who owns NewsWhip?
Sprout Social owns NewsWhip. The acquisition closed on July 30, 2025, for $55 million in cash plus up to $10 million in earnouts tied to performance over the next two years, according to Sprout Social's press release.
NewsWhip's co-founder and CEO, Paul Quigley, became General Manager of Sprout's Listening business. NewsWhip still runs its own site and its own Spike and Analytics logins.
Does NewsWhip have a free trial?
NewsWhip's website does not offer a free trial. The routes are Request a demo, Chat with us and the contact form.
If you want to judge it before signing, ask for a demo on your own brand terms and on a story you already know went viral, so you can see how early Spike would have flagged it and how close the predicted engagement came.
Is NewsWhip part of Sprout Social pricing now?
Not on a public price list. Sprout Social's pricing page sells per-seat plans with listening as an add-on, and neither company prints a NewsWhip figure. Sprout's press release says NewsWhip's leader oversees both NewsWhip and Sprout's listening products, so ask whether a renewal will be offered as NewsWhip, as Sprout listening, or as a bundle.
Is NewsWhip worth it if I only need brand mention alerts?
Usually not. What sets NewsWhip apart is prediction: seeing which stories and posts are about to take off, with engagement data from Facebook and X. Newsrooms and large comms teams pay for that.
If your need is to hear when news sites, Reddit or podcasts mention your company, with sentiment and a spike alert, a self-serve monitoring tool on a published monthly price does the job without a sales cycle.
What is a good NewsWhip alternative?
It depends which job you are replacing. For predictive engagement and early trend detection at enterprise scale, the realistic alternatives are Talkwalker, Meltwater and Sprinklr, all quote only.
For brand monitoring across news, Reddit and podcasts with sentiment and alerts, a published-price tool is a closer fit. EyeOut starts at $39 a month billed yearly, bills monthly if you prefer, and puts its crisis radar on Growth at $94.
What should I ask before signing a NewsWhip contract?
Ask for the quote itemized by product (Spike, Analytics, API), by seat and by search, so you can see which part you actually use. Ask how much history is included, whether X data is limited to influential accounts, and what the API rate limits are.
Then ask about term, renewal notice and price protection, and whether Sprout Social plans to move NewsWhip customers onto Sprout contracts during your term.
