Khoros alternatives and competitors for listening, care and community teams

The short answer

The right Khoros alternative depends on which part of Khoros you pay for. For a full replacement of care routing, publishing and listening, the only like-for-like suites are Sprinklr and Emplifi, and both are quote-led. For publishing with listening on a published per-seat price, Sprout Social and Hootsuite. For a community, a dedicated community platform. If the contract mostly exists so your team hears about brand mentions in news, Reddit, forums and podcasts, a monitoring tool covers that job: EyeOut starts at $39 a month billed yearly, against a Vendr median Khoros contract of $164,649 a year.

Most teams start looking at Khoros alternatives for one of two reasons. The first is ownership. IgniteTech, an enterprise software acquirer, completed its purchase of Khoros from Vista Equity Partners in May 2025, khoros.com now redirects to khoros.ai, and the products were renamed Aurora AI (communities) and Iris AI (publishing, digital care, analytics and listening). A renewal now means negotiating with a new owner about renamed products, and many teams want a second quote on the table before that conversation.

The second reason is cost against use. Vendr's Khoros buyer guide, updated February 2026, puts the median contract at $164,649 a year. Plenty of teams pay that while using one module heavily and the rest lightly. So the useful question is not which tool is the best Khoros alternative in general. It is which part of Khoros you would miss on Monday morning, and what that part costs on its own. This page sorts the alternatives that way, with the price each vendor actually publishes and the owner behind it.

Why it works

Three questions that decide which Khoros alternative fits

Which module carries the contract?

Khoros sells communities (Aurora AI) and social media management (Iris AI, with publishing, digital care, analytics and listening). Pull last year's usage by module before you shortlist. A care team needs a care inbox, a marketing team needs a scheduler, and a comms team often needs only alerts.

Do you need licensed Meta data?

Enterprise suites license full Facebook and Instagram data. If that is the reason you bought Khoros, only Sprinklr, Emplifi, Brandwatch or Sprout Social with its listening add-on replace it. If your risk lives in news, Reddit and podcasts, a monitoring tool covers it for far less.

Can you buy from a price list?

Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Agorapulse and EyeOut publish prices you can put in a budget today. Sprinklr, Brandwatch and Khoros itself require a sales process, and Emplifi publishes only two entry figures. A published price shortens procurement by weeks.

Khoros competitors compared by the job they replace, the price they publish and who owns them

Every price below was read from the vendor's own pricing page, or from Vendr where no price exists, and is labelled with its source. Where a vendor publishes nothing, the table says so.

Khoros grew out of the merger of Spredfast, a social marketing platform, and Lithium, a community and digital care company. That history explains why it competes with so many different products. Sprinklr competes with all of it. Sprout Social and Hootsuite compete with the publishing and listening side. Gainsight, Higher Logic and Discourse compete with the community side. Monitoring tools compete with one slice of the listening side.

That is also why a single ranked list of Khoros alternatives is misleading. A bank that runs a 40,000 member support community on Khoros and a retailer that uses Khoros Care to route Instagram DMs are not shopping for the same thing. Start from the job, then compare prices inside it.

One honest note on cost. Khoros contracts are large because they bundle modules, services and licensed data. If you replace the whole suite with another suite, expect a similar order of magnitude and push on terms rather than hoping for a tenfold saving. The big savings come when a module you pay for turns out to be one you barely use.

What are the best Khoros alternatives?

For a full replacement, Sprinklr and Emplifi are the closest suites. For publishing and analytics on a published price, Sprout Social and Hootsuite. For communities, Gainsight Customer Communities, Higher Logic Vanilla or Discourse. For brand mention alerts alone, a monitoring tool such as EyeOut, from $39 a month billed yearly.

Pick by the module you use most, not by a ranked list.

Who are Khoros's main competitors?

Sprinklr is the main head-to-head competitor across care, publishing and listening. Emplifi competes on social marketing and care, Sprout Social and Hootsuite on publishing and listening, Brandwatch on listening and consumer research, and Gainsight and Higher Logic on communities.

Khoros's own product names today are Aurora AI and Iris AI.

Is Sprinklr better than Khoros?

Sprinklr is broader. It sells social, service, marketing and insights suites, including a full contact center product, while Khoros focuses on social media management and communities.

Neither publishes a price. If your team needs a contact center and social care in one platform, Sprinklr fits better. If a branded community is central, Khoros or a dedicated community platform fits better.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Khoros?

Yes, if you do not need the whole suite. Sprout Social starts at $199 per seat a month billed yearly on Standard, Hootsuite at $99 per user and Agorapulse at $79 per user. For monitoring alone, EyeOut is $39 a month billed yearly.

Against a $164,649 median Khoros contract, each of these is a fraction of the cost, but each replaces only part of it.

What happened to Khoros?

IgniteTech, an enterprise software acquirer that also owns Jive, completed its acquisition of Khoros from Vista Equity Partners in May 2025. The company was restructured, khoros.com now redirects to khoros.ai, and the products were relaunched as Aurora AI for communities and Iris AI for social media management.

Khoros still sells and supports the platform.

What is the best Khoros Communities alternative?

For a customer support or product community, the usual shortlist is Gainsight Customer Communities, Higher Logic Vanilla and Discourse. They differ on hosting, SSO, gamification and how they integrate with your help desk.

EyeOut is not a community platform. It can watch what people say about you outside your own community, on Reddit, forums, news and podcasts.

How do I switch away from Khoros without losing coverage?

Read your renewal notice period first, since enterprise contracts usually need 60 to 90 days. Then run the replacement in parallel for at least a full month on the same brand terms, export the reports and saved searches you rely on, and compare alert volume and missed mentions side by side.

Only then give notice.

Can a social listening tool replace Khoros?

It can replace the listening part. A listening or monitoring tool tracks mentions, sentiment and spikes, but it does not publish posts, route care tickets or host a community.

If listening is most of what your team uses Khoros for, a monitoring plan with seats included is usually enough. If care routing matters, keep a care tool alongside it.

Good questions

Questions about khoros alternatives

For brand monitoring, yes. EyeOut collects Google News, Reddit, Mastodon, Hacker News, Lemmy and Apple Podcasts every 30 minutes, scores sentiment, tracks share of voice and raises crisis alerts from Growth. It does not publish posts, route care tickets or host a community.
No. EyeOut covers open sources: news, Reddit, Mastodon, Hacker News, Lemmy and podcasts. If licensed Meta data is the reason you buy Khoros, an enterprise listening suite is still the right tool, and EyeOut can sit beside it for the open web.
The same day. Pick a plan, add your brand and competitor keywords, and the first collection runs within 30 minutes. There is no implementation fee and no annual lock-in on monthly billing.
From each vendor's own pricing page. Where a vendor publishes none (Khoros, Sprinklr, Brandwatch), the page says so and uses Vendr's private purchase data, labelled as such, or no figure at all.
