Muck Rack Pricing 2026: What Muck Rack Actually Costs

Muck Rack names three plans and prices none of them. Here is what 80 real signed contracts cost according to Vendr, what the core plan includes and what is sold as an add-on, the three levers that move your quote, and where the cheaper half of the market starts.

Short answer: Muck Rack does not publish a price. Its pricing page names three plans, Starter, Standard and Premier, shows no figure for any of them and routes every one to "Contact us" or "Request Demo". For what buyers actually sign, the best available evidence is contract data: Vendr, which negotiates software contracts on behalf of its customers, puts the median Muck Rack contract at $13,000 a year across 80 anonymized purchases, with observed deals from $8,000 to $20,860 and average negotiated savings of 17%.

Last updated September 2026. Muck Rack's plan names, core modules and add-ons below were re-read from muckrack.com/pricing on September 10, 2026. The contract figures come from Vendr's marketplace data, last updated February 2026. No monthly figure has been invented to fill the gap.

How much does Muck Rack cost?

Between roughly $8,000 and $21,000 a year, with a typical contract landing near $13,000. That works out to somewhere around $1,100 a month for the median buyer, though nobody buys it monthly. Muck Rack is sold as an annual contract scoped by a salesperson, and the number depends on how many seats you need, which add-ons you take and how much monitoring volume you are buying.

The range is narrower than most of its rivals, which is genuinely useful information. Cision's observed range runs from $3,150 all the way to $30,368 and Meltwater's from $5,375 to $56,993. Muck Rack's spread of $8,000 to $20,860 suggests a more standardized product with less enterprise sprawl at the top end, and a higher floor at the bottom. If you were hoping to get in for two or three thousand dollars a year, the data says that is unlikely.

Does Muck Rack publish its pricing?

No figures. The pricing page now names three plans, Starter for individuals, Standard for most PR teams and Premier for enterprises and advanced teams, but none of them carries a price and all three end in the same Contact us or Request Demo button. Muck Rack's own explanation is that pricing "depends on a few factors specific to your team including the number of users". Automated requests to the pricing URL are refused outright. This is deliberate, not an oversight, and it is the norm rather than the exception in PR software: of the twelve platforms on our PR software and public relations software comparison, eight publish nothing at all.

What Muck Rack does publish clearly is scope, and that is worth reading carefully because it explains the price.

What you actually get for $13,000 a year

Muck Rack is one of the few genuinely all-in-one PR platforms, but the pricing page now draws a clear line between what the plans include and what is sold on top.

The two that separate it from the pack are the podcast monitoring and the Inbound Media Manager. Podcast coverage is a real blind spot in most monitoring stacks because it requires transcription at scale, and inbound request handling is a workflow problem almost nobody else has bothered to productize.

Read the right-hand column before the demo. Social listening, press release distribution, print and broadcast monitoring and the API are all priced on top of the plan, so a quote that looks comparable to a rival's may be missing two or three things you assumed were in it. That breadth is also the reason the floor sits at $8,000. You are not buying monitoring, you are buying a comms department's operating system, and the pricing reflects it whether or not you use the outbound half.

What 80 real Muck Rack contracts cost

When a vendor publishes nothing, contract data is the only honest source. Vendr aggregates real signed contracts from the private companies it buys software for, which makes it far more reliable than any blog estimate, though it is not a public record.

MetricMuck Rack, per Vendr
Median annual contract value$13,000
Observed range$8,000 to $20,860 a year
Purchases in the dataset80
Average savings achieved through negotiation17%

That 17% figure is the most actionable number on this page. It says the first quote you receive is not the price, and that buyers who push back land roughly a sixth lower on average. On a $13,000 contract that is about $2,200 a year, which is more than most teams save by switching vendors entirely. Budget for the negotiation, not just the software.

What drives a Muck Rack quote up

Three levers, in rough order of impact.

Seats. Muck Rack says outright that the number of users drives pricing, and PR platforms priced that way get expensive fast when the agency side of the house wants access too. Decide who genuinely needs to send pitches versus who only needs to read a report, because read-only stakeholders are the cheapest thing to underestimate.

Add-ons. The all-in-one framing is a strength when you use all of it and a tax when you do not. If your team never pitches journalists and you are buying Muck Rack to catch coverage, you are paying for a media database and a pitching workflow that will sit idle, and social listening or print and broadcast coverage will still be extra.

Monitoring volume and history. How many keywords you track, how much coverage flows through, and how far back you want to search all move the number. Ask specifically what happens when you exceed the volume you signed for, because overage terms vary a lot and rarely come up in the demo.

Muck Rack vs Cision: which is cheaper?

They land in nearly the same place at the median, and that surprises people who assume Cision is the expensive incumbent.

The medians differ by less than $400 a year, so price alone will not decide this. The differences that matter are shape: Cision's range is far wider at both ends, which means both cheaper entry deals and much larger enterprise contracts are available, and its 25.5% average savings says its opening quotes have more air in them. Muck Rack is more standardized and more product-led. There is a fuller side-by-side in our Muck Rack vs Cision comparison.

Is Muck Rack worth it?

It is worth it if you pitch journalists as a core part of the job. The media database and the pitching workflow are the product, and they are strong. A comms team sending twenty pitches a week gets more out of $13,000 here than out of almost anything else in the category, and the podcast monitoring and inbound request queue are real differentiators.

It is poor value if the reason you are buying is coverage. Teams that never pitch, and simply need to know what was published, how it read and how their share of voice is moving, are paying five figures for outbound tooling they will not open. That is the single most common way money gets wasted in this category, and it happens because the category name describes a job rather than a product.

Cheaper alternatives to Muck Rack

The split is clean. If you need the journalist database, there is no cheap version, and your realistic options are the other database vendors. If you need monitoring and reporting, the market is an order of magnitude cheaper and publishes its prices. For the whole field side by side, with contract data for the vendors that publish nothing, see our breakdown of Muck Rack competitors and what each one costs.

PropelMedia database, pitching and 10 to 50 monitoring alerts by planNone published, demo only
CisionDatabase, monitoring, reporting and PR Newswire distributionNone published, Vendr median $12,625/yr

One note on that Semrush row, because most roundups have not caught up with it. Prowly, for years the affordable independent option on small-team shortlists, is now sold as the Semrush AI PR Toolkit. Prowly's own homepage says so, its standalone pricing URL now lands on that homepage, and the plans are listed on Semrush. If a comparison you are reading still lists Prowly with its own monthly plan, it predates the change. We broke the new ladder down in full in Prowly pricing and what the Semrush AI PR Toolkit costs.

There is also a route that skips newsroom software entirely. A brand newsroom is, at bottom, a page on your own domain with your releases, images, boilerplate and press contact on it, and small teams increasingly just build that page on their own site rather than paying a five-figure annual floor for a hosted one. That does not replace a media database, but it does remove one line item from the quote.

Does Muck Rack offer a free trial?

Not a self-serve one. There is no sign-up flow that gets you into the product without a conversation, and every plan on the pricing page leads to a demo request or a contact form. Expect a scoping call, a tailored demo and then a quote. If you want to evaluate a PR tool the same afternoon you decide to look, that is a structural mismatch with how Muck Rack sells, and you will find it only among the published-price vendors.

How to use this before your demo

Go in with three numbers written down. The median, $13,000, so you know where the middle of the market sits. The floor, $8,000, so you know what a small deal looks like and can ask directly whether one exists for a team your size. And 17%, so you treat the first quote as an opening position rather than a price. Then decide before the call which plan and which add-ons you actually need, because that decision is worth more than anything you will negotiate.

If the honest answer is that you need coverage monitoring and PR reporting rather than outbound tooling, EyeOut does that piece for $59 a month billed yearly, with the price published in dollars, seats included on every tier and no demo required. It tracks news, web, X, Reddit, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, forums, podcasts and review sites, scores sentiment and theme with AI, measures share of voice against the competitors you name and grades alerts against a learned baseline for each source. It has no journalist database and does not distribute releases, which is exactly the point: you pay for the half you use.
